Utica Table.
About the Utica Table
The Utica Table is a study in restraint. Built around the natural character of live edge hardwood, it allows grain, movement, and subtle imperfections to lead, supported by a structure that feels intentional rather than decorative.
Black epoxy is used selectively, not as a focal point, but as a way to stabilize and highlight the wood’s natural contours. The result is a surface that feels grounded and expressive without visual noise.
Utica occupies the space between custom and repeatable design. Its core proportions and material approach are consistent, while select elements allow the piece to adapt naturally to different environments and uses.
Design Details.
- Live edge slab selected for expressive grain and natural form
- Restrained black epoxy accents used to stabilize and highlight, not dominate
- Clean, minimal base that supports the surface without competing with it
- Designed to scale across formats, from coffee table to boardroom
- Balanced proportions that feel substantial without excess
Materials and Finish.
The Utica Table is most commonly built from live edge black walnut, selected for richness, depth, and long term stability. Other hardwoods may be considered depending on the intended application and scale of the piece.
Black epoxy is applied sparingly to preserve the integrity of the slab while reinforcing areas of natural variation. Finishes are chosen to protect the surface while maintaining tactile warmth and visual honesty, allowing the table to develop character over time.
Availability and Variations.
The Utica Table is built to order as part of the Redbird Signature Series, with a defined design approach and controlled flexibility.
Variations may include size, wood species, and base design. Bases may be crafted in solid wood or metal, with metal bases often preferred for larger formats due to their visual lightness and structural efficiency.
Utica can be adapted for use as a dining table, kitchen table, boardroom table, or coffee table, while maintaining the same material philosophy and overall design intent. Availability varies throughout the year and follows the same deliberate pace as our custom work.
